In our Literacy learning we have started to investigate non-fiction and its features. This can be quite tricky, especially as the term non-fiction makes children think it is not real. We have already been reading non-fiction during guided reading so we have discussed lots of the features of non-fiction already.
We watched a film about the differences between fiction and non-fiction and listened to a song about sorting books into fiction and non-fiction, which Great Bear class loved but after the 8th time the grown ups in the class were not so keen!
Then we played Beetle, each team had to collect features of non-fiction and fiction by rolling a 6, then when all cards were collected the team had to sort them into each group. It was very noisy but fun and the children had remembered the features well.
