Our Brilliant Scrapstore Visit!

On Tuesday morning Carrie, from the Scrapstore came to spend the whole morning with us. We created a large Giant for our Castle, though he looks very friendly and not as if he is going to grind our bones at all! The children all produced at least one forest creature to live in our forest too.

We had a wonderful time and the children had lots of time to develop their creative skills, imagination and fine motor skills with cutting, gluing and decorating their creature. They certainly do not look like 5 and 6 year olds have made them with very limited adult support!

We also talked with Carrie about the work the Scrapstore does and why recycling is important, we also had a story at the end too.

Thank you to everyone for helping us to pay for this visit, I do realise schools are always (or so it seems) asking for money. However I believe very strongly in providing my class with a very broad curriculum and a wealth of different experiences and if I could I bring even more visitors into our class I would. Sadly, lots of these things cost money and there are only so many I can ask school to pay for. So thank you for all your support, Great Bear Class and I appreciate it!

Exploring Circuits

This week we have been looking at electrical circuits and exploring how they work. This is part of of our Computing learning as we are thinking about problem solving, debugging and will be creating an alarm for the Giant or Jack to use!

The children were very engaged and interested by our learning and spent a long time thinking about how to make their buzzer or motor work. We are looking forward to thinking more about this an investigating switches and how this might help our alarm building.

A Golden Discovery!

Our egg finally hatched! However it left a bigger mystery as all we found was a golden egg and lots of feathers scattered around the classroom, trapped in the window and outside! So we went on a hunt outside for more clues, we found feathers, footprints (one that could be a giant's!) and some nests!

We had lots of discussions to what the mystery creature could be, including a dinosaur and a golden chicken. We created wanted posters to see if anyone else had any clues. Great Bear are very intrigued to find out if the creature might come back and have come up with many ingenious plans, including cameras, traps and alarms. We will keep you posted of any developments.
