Hello Great Bear Parents, Carers and Friends,
After lots of discussions at Parent's Evening, I thought I would post a quick note on the blog! Great Bear Class are still currently learning about Dinosaurs as the children have yet to find another topic that inspires them and we still had lots of learning and things to do that we couldn't squeeze in before halt term.
If the children do not decide on a topic themselves over the next week, I will gently suggest some ideas and we will go from there. It would be very helpful if you could have a little chat a home about ideas for our next learning adventure!

Whizz, Pop, Twinkle and Bang!
Great Bear Class have taken a little break from Dinosaurs to look at Fireworks and Bonfire Night. We have spent a long time talking about adjectives and onomatopoeia, what those words meant and finding examples of them linked to fireworks.
We watched a film of a firework display in Japan and talked about what we could see and hear, even though the crowd was Japanese we could still understand how much they were enjoying the display from listening to their cheers, claps and ooooos!
We then created a word bank of firework adjectives and used it to help us write are own repeating poem and shape poem. We looked at other children's poems to give us inspiration.
We also created onomatopoeia word bubbles and firework art using the computer and painting with a fork!
Here is some of our lovely work, the rest of it will be on display ready for Parent's Evening!

Rob the Nest
On Wednesday 4th of November, Great Bear Class had a PE lesson with specalist PE coach Mr Kingwell from Up and Under. Great Bear Class have started a term of learning Multi-Skills with Mr Kingwell. We played "Rob the Nest" to develop tatics, speed, changing direction and obsevational skills. Everyone was put into teams and it was a relay race to take balls from the nest. Then 2 guardians came to protect the nest and if you were tagged you had to put your ball back and return to your line, it was great fun and Mrs Dummett wanted to join in too!
Shape Dinosaurs
On Tuesday 3rd November some of Great Bear's parents joined us for some Family Learning. We made shape dinosaurs. Here are our finished dinos.

Target Treats
Great Bear Class have been working on listening well and taking turns to speak. We chose these targets from our skills tree. Each term the skills on our tree change and as the year progresses the skills build up to become more challenging, the number of skills varies from 6 to 8 and they cover subject areas as well as social skills and learning attitudes.
Each time Great Bear class show they have achieved the chosen skill they gain a star on our target board and when we reach five stars we can have a treat! This term the children chose cake, squash and a visit to the library, so easy to please, bless them!
They decorated their own cake and enjoyed them with squash and then we went to the library to enjoy some free reading time. Everyone had a great afternoon!
We will let you know what our next target is. Here are some photos of cake making and eating!
